LED vs. Traditional Flashlights for Camping

Flashlights are an important tool to have when camping, as night falls and you move away from the campfire and into the darkness. Having a flashlight on hand is a no-brainer when packing your camping gear, but should you reach for an LED or a traditional flashlight?

Traditional Flashlights

Traditional flashlights typically use a light bulb, which are powered via traditional batteries. They are easy to use and to take apart. Their only drawback is that they can be unreliable, due to lifespan and heating. Since they operate on traditional batteries, they run out faster than LED flashlights and are prone to overheating, which causes them to stop functioning. If you do choose a traditional flashlight, just make sure to pack some extra batteries.

LED Flashlights

LED, or light emitting diode, flashlights are a modern advancement of light sources. They offer a greater light source and extended battery life. They are seen as the more eco-friendly solution. Unlike the traditional variety, LEDs do not overheat or diminish in light-power, regardless of the battery percentage, and even if it is the brightest Led Flashlight.

If you consider the two options, then it is easy to see that the best flashlight is the LED. They are more effective and efficient. They also offer greater durability and reliability. Another reason that LED flashlights are superior to the traditional ones is that they are not as susceptible to breaking, such as from being dropped or hitting a hard surface -- which is all too common when camping!
